Visit Forsyth Park in Savannah, GA

Forsyth Park stretches out over 30 gorgeous acres in the historic district of Savannah. The park itself is a bit of a historic monument, as its over 150 years old! The famous fountain was built in 1858 and modeled after Parisian and Peruvian architecture. If you’re visiting in March, you may be surprised to see that the water of the fountain is green. No, it’s not algae or anything to be worried about! In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and Savannah’s deep Irish roots, the city dyes the water a festive emerald.

Events at Forsyth Park

Sidewalk Arts Festival

Every year, the Savannah College of Art and Design hosts a unique festival that brings art to the streets…literally. The Sidewalk Arts Festival allows passersby to watch as talented students from SCAD create beautiful works on the park’s sidewalks. These aren’t your average chalk drawings, either. During the festival, the students are competing for coveted prizes and recognition. The event typically takes place in late April, toward the end of the semester, so be sure to plan your trip!

Picnic in the Park

Forsyth Park is so much a favorite spot for picnic-goers that the Savannah Philharmonic, in collaboration with the City of Savannah, created an entire event just for that! Picnic in the Park (or PIP) is the largest outdoor concert in town, with more than 20,000 attendees every year. In early October, you’ll have a chance to relax in the cool fall air while listening to world-class musicians perform. You can also browse the local vendors stationed at the outdoor farmers’ market.

Savannah Jazz Festival

What could be better than three days of jazz concerts in Forsyth Park? Free jazz concerts in Forsyth Park, of course! Savannah Jazz Festival provides just that. The Coastal Jazz Association has been offering quality concerts in late September for almost 40 years. This is an amazing event for families, and is a perfect way to enjoy live performances on a budget!
